Reclaimed softwood scores well in the National Environmental Database

Good news for the circular wood supply chain in the Green Heart: reused softwood has been included in the National Environmental Database (NMD) with a negative MKI value. This makes the environmental benefits of reusing wood demonstrable and makes it more attractive to construction companies that want to minimize their environmental impact and MPG.

Bureau Dispersed substantiated the environmental performance using an alternative LCA approach, which has been recognized by the NMD’s review committee. The calculation illustrates how reuse helps prevent the environmental impact caused by new materials.
In practice, too, wood is given a second life. For example, in 2027, the Bolton Group will use 5.4 metric tons of reused wood in eight townhouses in Numansdorp, including in staircases, storage rooms, and interior door frames. According to the project data, this will save 9.6 metric tons of CO₂ emissions.
